Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about our services and eye care.

How often should I have my eyes checked?

For adults with no known eye problems, an exam every two years is generally recommended. For people over 60, those who wear glasses or contact lenses, or those with a family history of eye disease, an annual exam is advised. Children should have their first check-up before the age of 3, and then regularly throughout their schooling.

What happens during an ophthalmologist consultation?

A standard consultation generally includes several steps: a questionnaire about your medical and ocular history, a visual acuity test, a measurement of intraocular pressure, an examination of the anterior segment of the eye with the slit lamp, and often a pupil dilation to examine the back of the eye. Other examinations may be performed according to your specific symptoms.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optician?

An ophthalmologist is a medical specialist who can diagnose and treat all eye diseases, prescribe medications, and perform surgical procedures. An optician, on the other hand, is a professional who makes and sells prescription glasses and contact lenses, but cannot diagnose diseases or prescribe treatments.

How should I prepare my child for their first visit to the ophthalmologist?

Explain to them in simple terms what will happen: the doctor will look at their eyes with special instruments, ask them to recognize images or letters, but nothing will hurt. Choose a time when your child is well-rested. Bring their health record and note your observations or concerns in advance. Don't hesitate to contact us for any specific questions regarding the preparation of your child.
